The Federation of Shotokan Karate

All our Junior Karate clubs and schools are affiliated to the Federation of Shotokan Karate; formed in 1986 by former World Champion, Sensei Aidan Trimble (8th Dan).

As Chairman and Chief Instructor he has developed the organisation from its infancy to become an international Karate federation recognised throughout the world.

Widely regarded as one of the finest instructors of all time, let alone today, Sensei Trimble is a phenomenally gifted technician and was a hugely successful competitor.

A talented fighter, Aidan started learning Karate in 1972 at the age of 11, quickly earning his black belt before winning his first British title at the tender age of 17. Following early success he remained a member of the British Karate team for 16 years, until 1994 when he retired from international competition. During that time, he was British champion a further three times and four times European Champion.

A pioneer from the very beginning, his greatest competitive achievement came in 1983, when he won the World Karate Championship in Tokyo at just 22-years-of-age. In doing so, Aidan became the first European fighter to win the title on Japanese soil.

And so, the Karate world took note, as his remarkable achievement opened doors for the competitors of other nations; marking out a blueprint for success in a sport the Japanese had previously dominated, especially on home turf.

Following his retirement from the sport, Aidan worked as a bodyguard, a close quarter combat consultant to the military, had a successful acting career and became a prolific author with his books sold worldwide. He has worked extensively in sports development and governance both in this country and overseas, receiving awards for his development of Karate and sport from governing bodies on four continents.

But it is Sensei Trimble’s role as an instructor in which he has truly excelled. He is highly sought after throughout the United Kingdom, having also taught across Europe - in Ireland, Italy and Scandinavia - as well as in the USA, Canada, South Africa and Japan.

His formation of the Federation of Shotokan Karate has presented opportunities to people of all ages and abilities around the globe. Its headquarters - The Dojo in Beeston, Nottingham - is widely considered the most prestigious Karate centre in the country. A mecca for martial arts talent, here Aidan has produced and mentored both junior and senior international competitors, boasting several World Champions who have endeavoured to follow in his footsteps.

The FSK is an association built on excellence without exclusion, producing students and instructors alike who are knowledgable in all aspects of Karate practice. The FSK aims to give every practitioner, young or old, the opportunity to develop their full potential.

Regular gradings are provided for members of affiliated clubs - under the watchful eye of Sensei Trimble himself - supported through the provision of licensing, insurance and DBS (CRB) checks.

Rest assured, your Karate education is in the best possible hands.
